Main Categories of Membership and Fees

There is an IRRV grade of membership for everyone working in local authorities and public and private sector valuation. Most new members of the IRRV will join as an Affiliate, Student, Corporate or Honours member. Here are the 2025 fees:

Affiliate Members
£214 Retired Membership is available to eligible members who are no longer in any type of paid employment
Retired (Technician, Diploma, Corporate, Honours) pay annually or a one-off Life Retired fee. £70 or £336 Fellow Retired pay annually or a one-off Life Retired Fellow fee. £101 or £496 Annual fees are calculated on a pro-rata basis (January-December)
Plus one-off entrance fee of £48.00 **£48.00 fee for re-joining members

Honours Membership
Who qualifies:
- Persons who have achieved Honours Membership through the Institute’s qualifications.
- Chartered RICS Members (MRICS, FRICS).
- Full CIPFA Members holding a senior post (i.e. Chief Officer, Head of Service or Chief Financial Officer).
Note: Persons not meeting the above criteria can apply for either Corporate or Affiliate membership.

Fellow Membership
Who qualifies:
Fellow Membership may be awarded to persons who can demonstrate exceptional leadership, extensive experience and significant contribution to their profession. Criteria will include a minimum number of years in senior roles, peer recognition, ongoing professional development and a record of innovation, mentorship or influence within the field.
Retired Honours members who once met the above criteria are also eligible to apply and would be entitled to use the post nominal letters FIRRV Retired.
Annual Subscription Fee: £459.00 Current member / £101.00 Fellow Retired member

Diploma Membership
Who qualifies:
Diploma Membership may be awarded to persons who have achieved Diploma Membership through the Institute’s qualification.

Corporate Membership
Who qualifies:
Corporate Membership may be awarded to Senior Post Holders in the public and private sector. Persons should have a minimum of five years as a Senior Post Holder.
Members admitted under this category can pursue the Diploma and Honours scheme routes to obtain either IRRV (Dip) or IRRV (Hons)

Technician Membership
Who qualifies:
Technician Membership may be awarded in the following circumstances:-
- Persons who have achieved Technician Membership through the Institute’s qualifications.
- Persons who have achieved Technician Membership through the Institute’s delivery of the Level 4 Revenues and Welfare Benefits Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Certificate in Rating Membership
Who qualifies:
Certificate in Rating Membership may be awarded to persons who have achieved Certificate in Rating Membership through the Institute’s qualification.

Student Membership
Who qualifies:
Student Membership may be awarded to persons actively studying for such examinations of the Institute including the delivery of the Level 4 Revenues and Welfare Benefits Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Affiliate Membership
Who qualifies:
Affiliate Membership may be awarded to persons who are engaged in a profession or occupation provided for in Paragraph 4 of the Memorandum of Association.

Concessions
The following Concessions will apply to all grades of membership except Honorary Life Membership and Honorary Membership:
- Parental or Adoption Leave
A concession is available for members who are on parental or adoption leave for a duration of at least six months and are not working during this period. This concession reduces the annual fee by 100% (no refunds will apply on any membership fee already paid) and applies initially to the current year. A further application must be made in a subsequent year.
The member will need to provide evidence confirming leave from work.
- Family Raising / Caring Leave
A concession is available for members who are taking a career break of at least six months in duration to raise a family or care for a relative and are not working during this period. This concession reduces the annual fee by 100% (no refunds will apply on any membership fee already paid) and applies initially to the current year. A further application must be made in a subsequent year.
The member will need to provide evidence confirming leave from work.
- Ill Health or Disability
A concession is available for members who are currently unable to work due to serious ill-health, incapacity or disability. This concession reduces the annual fee by up to 100% (no refunds will apply on any membership fee already paid) and applies initially to the current year. A further application must be made in a subsequent year.
The member will need to provide evidence confirming leave from work.
All Concessions will need to be approved by the Trustees of the IRRV Benevolent Fund.
