Wirral Councils Emergency Financial Support team manage the council’s allocation of the Household Support Fund. This is to support those most in need across the Borough with items such as food and utilities. The team comprises of 7 dedicated members of staff, additional resources are called on from across the council at busier period and to provide expert assistance and advice.
The council was allocated £6,098,690 in 2023/24 by the DWP.
We had an innovative approach to utilise this allocation by collaborating with over 100 partners from across the Borough to distribute the funding and provide support to households on over 188,000 occasions.
They were several initiatives, Including providing food parcels and food pantries to a wide range of young people through 92 schools. We provided Energy Support to nearly 20,000 households.
Our Small Grants Programme provided 93 awards totalling £1,36M for local charities and community groups across the Borough.
