The Work and Pensions Committee is to take evidence from academics and charities during the second oral evidence session of the children in poverty inquiry.

The inquiry is initially focusing on how best to measure child poverty and its impact. The first part of the meeting with academics and a domestic abuse support organisation will explore the relationship between child poverty and health, childhood abuse and family breakdown.

The second half of the session, with representatives from major children’s charities, will examine issues around the measurement of child poverty, as well as the impact of worklessness and financial hardship. The Committee is also likely to explore the Government’s approach to reducing the number of children living in poverty.

The Committee previously held an evidence session with academics and policy experts.
