Summary
Unitary Councils 2009
Detail
This page gives information on nine unitary authorities established on 1 April 2009. The authorities have a combined population of 3.2 million. Their establishment reduces the number of authorities in seven areas from 44 to nine. Once they are fully up and running, they will make combined annual savings of more than £100 million, after one-off transitional costs, which can be used to improve frontline services or reduce council tax bills.
