This report provides a set of specific and measurable objectives which aim to ensure that the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) considers equality in their work.
These objectives fall into 2 distinct groups: those about BEIS as an employer and those about BEIS as a policy-making department.
We are aiming to make progress in:
- addressing the disproportionate impact of business closures on ethnic minorities, younger workers, and women
- supporting specific sectors (for example, manufacturing, nuclear, energy) to draw on a greater pool of talent where there has been historical underrepresentation of some protected characteristics
- ensuring a variety of voices are heard in our work on tackling climate change
- tackling barriers to participation in the UK’s research and development system and supporting the UK’s researchers, whatever their background, to fulfil their potential
- fostering a supportive environment within BEIS for our employees
