You will be aware the government published last month its final report and conclusions of the Business Rates Review; the document can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/hm-treasury-fundamental-review-of-business-rates-call-for-evidence. Today, the government has published a technical consultation on reforms to the business rates system in England. This consultation (which will run for three months until 22 February 2021) sets out in more detail several of the measures announced at Budget last month as part of the Business Rates Review; this includes new measures to support more frequent revaluations. The Institute will be running a Professional Meeting ‘NNDR - The Budget Changes and the Latest on MCC Relief and Rate Retention’ on Friday, 10 December 2021. The speakers will not only be addressing this technical consultation but also the Rating (Coronavirus) and Directors Disqualification (Dissolved Companies) Bill; the latest position on which can be found at https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/2861. The Report Stage of the Bill in the House of Lords is scheduled for tomorrow (1 December 2021) with Royal Assent expected this side of Christmas.
