Details
The government made a down payment to councils in April for the early stages of delivering the council tax rebate. The government agreed to conduct a further assessment of all the associated New Burdens costs and, if necessary, top up this funding for councils. This letter sets out the allocations for further New Burdens funding following this assessment.
Furthermore, the government committed to reconcile the funding provided for the council tax rebate with the amounts councils actually paid to eligible households by the end of the scheme. This letter sets out the next steps this department will be taking towards reconciling funding for the rebate scheme, following the completion of additional assurance exercises by councils.
