This page gives details of plans to put in
place new arrangements for auditing England's local public bodies.
A brief update on in-house audit practice: The
majority of audits for local public bodies are currently undertaken by the Audit
Commission. In July 2011 the government confirmed their preference for
transferring this work to the private sector by outsourcing contracts. DCLG has
published a draft Local Audit Bill for pre-legislative scrutiny which is
currently open to consultation. Updated: 9 January
