Vetting and Barring Scheme to Protect Children and Vulnerable Adults - next steps

Since 31 March 2008, as part of transition to the new Vetting and Barring Scheme (starting October 2009), the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA) has advised the Secretary of State on barring decisions (List 99, PoCA, PoVA).  In the next stage of transition, subject to Parliamentary approval, from winter 2008 (precise date to be set), employers must send new referrals under these schemes to ISA, which will take the decisions.  Where ISA asks organisations for information on a case, they must provide it.

By October 2008, please cascade this information within your sector, so employers can prepare in time; and remind employers to fulfil existing pre-employment responsibilities, e.g. taking up references and conducting checks.

For information on the Independent Safeguarding Authority please visit the ISA website.
