MHCLG is carrying out a data collection to gather information on the impact Covid-19 is having on local authority finances.
The data collection is designed to provide government with ongoing financial management information on financial pressures councils are experiencing due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The data collection is not a formal return but best estimates to inform work in government on supporting local authorities.
The data collection is aimed at finance directors in 339 local authorities; fire and rescue authorities or combined authorities are not included in this survey. Information has been collected from local authorities in April, May and June and the collection will be run on a regular basis while the government’s response to the pandemic is ongoing.
This data shows councils’ Covid-19-related additional expenditure, income loss and allocation of the Government emergency funding, as well as estimations of the full year impact.
