Consumer Minister Kevin Brennan has today outlined new funding awarded to Citizens Advice Bureaux in the Pre-Budget Report.
Speaking at the National Consumer Federation ‘Consumer conference’ in central London, the Minister said:
“I’m pleased to say that the Government is providing a further £5 million to help fund extended opening hours at Citizens Advice Bureaux next year. This will help an extra 300,000 people and is a major boost for hard pressed consumers in need of advice.
The Minister also confirmed that following successful ‘money guidance’ pilots underway in the North East and North West of England, the Government and FSA will provide £20 million in 2010-11 to fund the national rollout of the project from Spring 2010.
Kevin Brennan said:
“Money guidance is helping people deal with their finances, from making an informed decision when choosing financial products to dealing with debts before they get out of hand.”
The Minister’s speech outlined the help, advice, guidance and protections that the Government is putting in place to help consumers through the downturn.
