This statistics release contains the latest data on individual insolvency (people who are unable to pay debts and enter formal procedures).
Statistics are presented separately for England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland because of differences in legislation and policy.
Main messages
Individual in Q1 2020
- Total numbers of individual insolvencies in Q1 2020 decreased.
- The overall trend for all individual insolvencies continued to be driven by the volume of IVAs, which fell in the last quarter
- Debt relief orders remained flat while bankruptcies increased compared to Q4 2019
