An Introduction to Valuation Principles & Check, Challenge & Appeal

    This one day course will cover an Introduction to various Methods of Valuation and their application to both Non-Domestic and Council Tax assessments and more widely to the valuation process.

    Valuation Methods covered in more detail will include:

    • Comparative Method
    • Contractors Basis
    • Receipt and Expenditure (Income) Method
    • Valuation of Residential Properties for Council Tax

    It will also cover the details of the approach to the valuation considerations for Check, Challenge and Appeal and Council Tax Appeals

    This will be of interest to those new to this area of work in an administrative or support role in both public and private sectors outlining possible valuation methods and those that are routinely used in the UK. Also providing a basis for further learning to those undertaking referencing, case preparation and business development.

    The course will be delivered by Andrew Hetherton MRICS IRRV (Hons) Cert Ed, Director, Andrew Hetherton Consulting Ltd.

    Andrew is the Managing Editor of the Institute’s magazine, Insight; Chair of the Professional Conduct Committee and the Policy & Resources Committee as well as a Past President of the Institute. 

    Andrew represents the Institute on the Business Rates Advisory Forum, Professional Bodies Liaison Group and the Valuation Tribunal Users Group and the Upper Tribunal Users Group, He is also a member of the RICS Local Taxation Group and the Rating Surveyors’ Association (RSA)  Committee as well as being a former President of the RSA. 

    The course starts at 09.30am and finishes at approx 4.00pm.

    The Institute will make every effort to give delegates as much notice as possible of any programme changes or the cancellation / re-scheduling of an event. However, it does reserve the right to make changes to advertised programmes and to cancel / re-schedule events. In the unlikely event of an event being cancelled / re-scheduled, either a full refund will be made or alternatively, any fee paid will be credited against a future booking. The Institute will not be liable for any travel and / or accommodation costs incurred by the attendee should an event be cancelled / re-scheduled.

    VAT will be applied at the current rate. Cancellations two weeks before course date will be charged at 50%. Cancellations after this date will be charged at 100%. A substitute attendee is allowed at any time at no extra cost.
