IRRV Association and Sponsors Golf Day on Monday 3 July 2022
Maxstoke Park in Warwickshire again hosted the annual IRRV Association and Sponsors Golf Day on Monday 3 July 2022 and as is becoming the norm, the sun shone making for perfect golfing conditions.
This year proved to be the biggest and best event yet with 76 players getting together for a day of competition, networking and banter with seven “4 person” regional association teams from as far south as London and north as Scotland doing battle for the Pat Doherty Shield. This years competition was the closest ever with the top 3 associations all finishing on the same number of points. As a result, this saw the London and Home Counties Association team of Andy Cummins, John Allen, Phil Black and Nick Rowe victorious for the first time ever by virtue of them fielding 4 fully paid-up IRRV members and therefore just pipping the Lancashire and Cheshire and Yorkshire association teams into second and third spots.
This years event also attracted magnificent support from 27 sponsors who fielded their own “two man teams” to do battle for the “Mike Peterson” trophy. This was an even tighter affair with only one point separating the top five teams. After comparing the respective cards, this saw JTR Collections represented by Michael Line and Lee Dubois narrowly triumph over Ward Hadaway and Northgate Public Services by virtue of a better back 9 score with the teams from Team Netsol and Colliers just edged into fourth and fifth place respectively
Whilst it’s always nice to win and have the bragging rights for the next 12 months, the key emphasis of the day is about having fun and there were lots of individual nearest the pins in one and two, and a longest drive and putt competition to keep everyone interested even if they weren’t having their best day on the fairways. In addition,, a special competition was held in memory of Dave Clarke, a keen golfer at our events who sadly passed away in 2021 which was sponsored by TeamNetsol and saw Lancashire and Cheshire members, Dave Chapman and Paul Manning triumph.
However, the biggest winner on the day was locally based charity, Ediblelinks, for whom over £1,300 was raised due to the very generous support of all our sponsors who ensured a brilliant raffle prize table that was well supported by all attendees that included IRRV National President, Alistair Townsend, outgoing Chief Executive, David Magor and incoming Chief Executive, Gary Watson. To recognise and celebrate taking up his new office,, Gary in line with golfing tradition drove off from the first hole and I am pleased to report hit the ball, and it was almost straight !
Attached are photos of the winners on the day and more photos, details of all sponsors as well as our future events can be accessed on the IRRV website via the events tab
We look forward to doing it all again next year at Maxstoke Park (our 25th anniversary) on Monday 3 July 2023 and hopefully will be able to attract even more Associations and sponsors to get involved in an event that is fast becoming one of the largest social gatherings in the Institutes calendar. If any new sponsor or association are interested in getting involved, please contact Bob Trahern at villafunk66@gmail.com for more information
Our next event on Monday 3 October in Telford, an individual stableford competition in advance of the IRRV Autumn conference open to all conference attendees or exhibitors who can register by contacting Bob direct.
