A range of services that customers and businesses alike can access electronically has now moved to the DWP.
The Cabinet Office’s e-Delivery Team (eDT), responsible for the Government Gateway - the service which allows citizens, businesses and other organisations to interact securely with and within Government - has joined the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) from April 2008. The Gateway currently offers more than 153 online services delivered on behalf of 79 public sector organisations.
The move reflects DWP’s growing cross government role in improving access to online Government services for the citizen. The Gateway’s continued development will gain from the close support of the DWP’s extensive IT systems and expertise.
Sir Leigh Lewis, Permanent Secretary of the DWP said:
“The Government Gateway is a vital component of secure on-line services. I am delighted that the e-Delivery Team is joining DWP and will be able to take part in the strategic development of services to the citizen that we are leading across government.”
Sir Gus O’Donnell, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service said:
“The Cabinet Office bought together the Government Gateway since inception and is proud to pass this over to DWP who will continue to build on its reputation and role supporting transformational government activities”.
Chris Haynes, Director of eDT said “This move reflects the success of Gateway in changing the landscape on identity assurance for government on line services and by adding this to the portfolio of IT Leadership within DWP, significantly enhances government options in transforming government for public sector employees, citizens and business.”
