The Social Security Advisory Committee (SSAC) is an independent statutory body set up in 1980 to advise the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, and the Department of Social Development in Northern Ireland, on social security matters.

About SSAC: this section gives you a guide to the remit, duties, membership and procedures of the Committee. It also contains details of the criteria for membership. Vacancies for Committee members will be advertised in this section.

Current Consultation: this section gives you details of consultation exercises currently under way on regulations formally referred to the committee, and a guide to submitting your responses.

News: this section gives you details of current press releases, quarterly business updates and details of the Committee's monthly business meetings.

Publications: this section lists the Committee's publications since 1980 and provides access to the Committee's Annual Reports, the Secretary of State's command papers containing the Committee's reports on proposed regulations, research reports and occasional papers.
