The Institute recently advertised for a new role at it's HQ for a Deputy Chief Executive. We are pleased to announce that Mr Gary Watson IRRV will be starting in his new role as Deputy Chief Executive early in 2008.
Gary Watson left Local Government in August 2004 after 28 years service to run his own Consultancy Company ‘Hayeswater Consultancy Ltd.’ that specialises in all aspects of Council Tax, Rates, Revenues and Benefits. Whilst in Local Government, he had worked for Hillingdon LBC, Elmbridge BC, Lambeth LBC and most recently, Tower Hamlets LBC where he was employed for 16 years.
An elected member of the IRRV National Council since 1990, he served as President in 2002/03. A past chair of the Education Committee, Gary is now chair of their Local Taxation and Revenues Faculty Board. He is also currently the coordinator of their Performance Awards Scheme. At a local level, he has been an elected member of the London & Home Counties Association Executive for over 20 years and served as Chairman in 1993 / 94.
In addition to presenting papers at National Conferences, Seminars, Forums and Association Meetings, Gary is a regular contributor to the monthly journal of the Institute and Faculty Review. He is chair of the Authors Panel that reviews Institute publications and author of the new Practice Notes on Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rate. Gary also contributed the material for the Electronic Learning Tools produced by the Institute.
A lecturer on Day / Block Release and Pre-Examination Courses since 1984, Gary is now the Course Director of the Institutes Pre-Examination Courses and the East Anglian Association Day Release Course. He is an author / tutor in three subjects (Council Tax Law, Non-Domestic Rate Law and Local Taxation Law & Practice) on the Institutes Distance Learning Programme and examiner in ‘Revenues Administration – Level II’.
