Title:

Valuation Office Agency introduces new arrangements for handling 2010 rating list appeals

Summary:

Details of the draft timetable for handling appeals from ratepayers against rating assessments contained in the 2010 rating lists were published online for the first time by the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) today.

The timetable consists of programmes which will show when appeals will be discussed. It will be in draft form for four weeks, allowing ratepayers and their professional representatives to comment on them before they are finalised.

This approach provides an opportunity for consultation on the draft programmes to ensure greater transparency and understanding.

Niall Walsh, Director of Operations at the VOA, explained that this was all part of the VOA’s commitment to improve the service provided to ratepayers and their professional advisers.  He said:

“I’m really keen that we work closely with ratepayers, and making this information accessible to everyone involved means we can consider their views.

“This is all part of our commitment to continuous improvement.  We continually seek to make all aspects of our rating work clearer and more understandable, for the benefit of all ratepayers.

“Although we are making improvements to the way we handle appeals, we encourage ratepayers or their professional representatives to talk to us informally in the first instance.  An appeal is not the only way to deal with ratepayer’s concerns and we are keen to try to provide information or resolve matters simply by direct contact at an early stage.”
