A weekly update on benefits and taxation decisions

Please note: our decisions are published six weeks after they are issued to councils, care providers and the person who has made the complaint. The cases below reflect the caselaw and guidance available at the time of issue and the individual circumstances of each case.

Somerset West and Taunton Council (22 011 344)

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about historic council tax arrears and bailiff fees. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault by the Council.

London Borough of Croydon (22 011 864)

Summary: Mr X complains that the Council failed to process his Council tax payment which resulted in further bailiff fees. We will not investigate this complaint because there is no evidence of fault by the Council.

London Borough of Barnet (22 011 901)

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about an overpayment of housing benefit as there is a right of appeal to a tribunal.

London Borough of Sutton (22 011 905)

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint about entitlement to Council tax discounts and exemptions because they can be appealed to a Valuation Tribunal.

Manchester City Council (22 012 271)

Summary: We will not investigate this complaint that the Council made an offensive and discriminatory comment to the complainant. This is because there is insufficient evidence of fault by the Council and it is unlikely we could add to the Council’s response.
