The Work and Pensions Committee examines the "local welfare safety net"-local authority-run discretionary welfare assistance, housing payment and Council Tax support schemes.

Purpose of the session

The Committee hears evidence from local authorities on best practice in the administration of locally-run discretionary welfare. It also questions Ministers on the Government's position on the range of issues raised during the inquiry, including the adequacy and effectiveness of the local welfare safety net as a whole.
