Following the August release of statistics (with data to May 2018), we will stop publishing the data in spreadsheet format. The Housing Benefit data will only be available via Stat-Xplore, as notified in the release of statistics in May 2018.

Stat-Xplore is an online tool which allows you to create your own customised tables and charts.

The August 2018 publication of Housing Benefit data on Stat-Xplore includes the new Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) methodology for assigning geographies. Geography breakdowns for residential Housing Benefit claimants will be based on 2011 Census Output Areas rather than 2001 for data from April 2018. This is in line with a broader move to refresh geographical breakdowns in DWP statistical products.

Read the DWP statistical geographies note for more information.

Email stats-consultation@dwp.gsi.gov.uk if you have any comments or questions about this.

Related publications

DWP also publishes historic and forecast benefit expenditure and caseload data which is usually consistent with the annual Budget and Autumn Statement.
