Lords debates impact of welfare cuts on families

02 November 2018

Members of the Lords, including the president of the Social Policy Association and a member of the Financial Inclusion Commission, debated the impact on family life of multiple reductions in welfare benefits, universal credit, tax credits, housing benefits and child benefit, in the House of Lords on Thursday 1 November.

 

This was a general debate. They normally take place on a Thursday in the chamber. During debates, members are able to put their experience to good use, discussing current issues and drawing the government's attention to concerns.

The debate was proposed by Lord Bassam of Brighton (Labour), member of the Child Poverty Action Group.

Members taking part included:

Baroness Buscombe (Conservative), parliamentary under-secretary in the Department for Work and Pensions, responded on behalf of the government.
