The job fairs kick-off at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Thursday 4th September, between 11am and 3pm, where more than 1000 jobs will be on offer, including those from well-known employers such as: British Gas, Tesco, Asda, Lloyds TSB, Marks & Spencer and the AA, to name but a few.
An event in Llantrisant takes place on the same day (4th) between, 10am and 1pm at Llantrisant Leisure Centre, with more than 150 full and part-time jobs available.
Three interactive job fairs, with 600 vacancies in total, will take place in West Wales simultaneously on Saturday 6th September, between 11am and 2pm, in Ammanford, at the Pensioners Hall on Quay Street; Carmarthen, at Unit 2 Greyfriars; and Llanelli, at the Selwyn Samuel Centre.
These interactive events give people the opportunity to visit any one of the three fairs and be able to search for jobs with employers, such as Admiral Insurance, BHS and Next, at the other sites, via a link provided by Jobcentre Plus. This means jobseekers can rest assured they won’t miss out on any opportunities available to them throughout the whole of West Wales.
The second week of job fairs sees events at Caerphilly Social Club (10am-1pm) and Newport Riverfront Theatre (11am-3pm) on September 9th, and at the Bridgend Recreational Centre (10am-2pm) on September 10th.
Stephen Timms, Employment Minister, said:
“I know some parts of Wales have suffered job losses in recent months as a result of the global credit crunch. These job fairs are intended by Jobcentre Plus to make our services more accessible to people in those areas, and help get them back into work as quickly as possible.
“We’re determined to get work for those who can, and help for those who can’t.
“Some people may think they can’t get a job because of health, childcare or training issues,. We urge people to come to these job fairs to speak with a Jobcentre Plus adviser about the help available to overcome problems preventing them returning to work.”
Linda Badman, Jobcentre Plus Customer Services Director for Wales, added:
“Everyone who attends one of these job fairs will have the chance to meet face-to-face with many different employers all under one roof, and find out first hand what vacancies are available, and how to apply for them. They can also get advice from Jobcentre Plus advisers and partner organisations about in-work benefits.”
People who cannot attend a jobs fair should contact Jobseeker Direct for details about vacancies on local rate telephone number 0845 6060234. The text phone number for people who are deaf, hard of hearing or have speech difficulties is 0845 6055255. Lines are open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays or they can visit the Jobcentre Plus website at www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk.
