Guidance on Magistrates’ Courts (Amendment) Rules 2019

 

 

 

 

 

The Magistrates’ Courts (Amendment) Rules 2019 come into force on 1 January 2020.

 

Although the amended rules provide for the issue of electronic summons, summons relating to outstanding council tax or business rates remain governed by regulation 35 of The Council Tax (Enforcement) Regulations 1992 and regulation 13 of the Non-Domestic Rating (Collection and Enforcement (Local Lists) Regulations 1989. As such, they cannot be served electronically.

 

The amended rules may, however, have other impacts for local authorities, including on the content of summons. Further information is available at the following address:
