DWP statisticians have identified that the methodology to match appeals to the ESA-Work Capability Assessment data has gradually caused an undercount since 2013. While the undercount does not change the overall trends in the data or story, work to improve the methodology and produce revised figures has commenced and the data will be revised in the March 2020 release. For more information please see methodology note.

The publication covers both new and repeat ESA claims and information on claims undergoing reassessment of incapacity benefits for ESA in Great Britain.
