22 January 2021

Image representing news article

The Work and Pensions Committee will question Minister for Pensions and Financial Inclusion Guy Opperman MP as part of its inquiry into pension scams.

Purpose of the session

The session will be a chance for the Committee to ask what actions the Government is taking to crack down on pension scammers and provide support for victims of scams.

Questions are also likely to focus on the role of different public bodies and the pensions industry in tackling the problem of pension scams and how to raise public awareness.

Protecting pension savers

The Committee has previously heard from the organisations with responsibility for tackling pension scams, the pensions industry and people who have experienced scams.

The Committee’s focus on scams is part of a wider inquiry examining the impact of the pension freedoms, five years after they were introduced.

The inquiry will also cover accessing pension savings and saving for later life.
