Billing Authority Submission Standards – Completion Notices
Feedback from our Customer Service Centre colleagues highlights that an increased number of BA reports are failing the BARRS submission standards as the reports do not state whether a completion notice has been served on the property.
You may recall that in our February newsletter (see attached) we requested that when a new property for Council Tax or Business Rates is reported to the VOA, that you please indicate in the remarks whether a completion notice has been served - CN Yes (if a Completion Notice has been served) or CN No (if a Completion Notice has not been served. For example, the property is occupied or not a structure). By including this information, it will prevent the report failing submission standards and allow our Customer Service Centre colleagues to identify this type of report more easily.
We acknowledge that this request may have required you to carry out some changes to your internal processes and for this reason, we proposed a lead in time of 31 July 2023. As this date has now passed we are sending a reminder that if the above remarks are not included within your report, unfortunately the report will not be accepted as it will fail the submission standards.
If you have any questions about reports that have not been accepted for this reason then please let us know at barsubmissionstandards@voa.gov.uk.
Kind regards
