Autumn Statement – business rates in the News today.
On Radio 4’s ‘Today’ at 08.45 this morning a short piece where Tanya Beckett interviews Helen Ford, Manager Government Relations for General Motors UK – rates ‘not fit for purpose’ –– ‘highest burden [here] compared to OECD countries’ – ‘capital values used in Europe’ – remove ’all plant and machinery from assessment’ – putting message to Chancellor that [rates at these levels are clearly a] ‘disincentive to invest’ [in the UK], etc.
