Consultation - Inspection powers and funding arrangements of the Information Commissioner

This consultation builds on recommendations stemming from the Data Sharing Review recently conducted by Richard Thomas, the Information Commissioner, and Dr Mark Walport, Director of the Wellcome Trust.
The Government seeks views on proposed changes to the inspection powers and funding arrangements of the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO). Specifically we seek views on proposals to:
- promote good practice
- enforce compliance by enhancing the Commissioner's inspection powers under the Data Protection Act 1998
- amend the structure for funding the Information Commissioner's data protection duties.
