Lords debates contribution made by businesses in addressing Covid-19

Members of the Lords debated the contribution made by businesses and the wider private sector in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic, in a virtual session on Thursday 21 May.

Speakers included vice president of the Confederation of British Industries and a senior lecturer at the London School of Economics.

 

This was a general debate. During debates, members put their experience to good use to discuss current issues and draw the government's attention to concerns.

Lord Dobbs (Conservative), former deputy chairman of Saatchi and Saatchi, put forward the debate.

Members taking part included:

  • Lord Bilimoria (Crossbench), vice president, Confederation of British Industries
  • Lord Desai (Labour), professor and senior lecturer, London School of Economics
  • Lord Fox (Liberal Democrat), Liberal Democrat spokesperson for business, industry and industrial strategy
  • Baroness Noakes (Conservative), director, Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc.

Lord Callanan (Conservative), Parliamentary Under-Secretary in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, responded on behalf of the government.
