Work and Pensions Secretary Rt Hon Dr Thérèse Coffey MP is to face questions from the Work and Pensions Committee on her Department’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.
In June, the Committee published a report on how the DWP had responded to the pandemic and its role in supporting those affected. The Government’s response was published earlier this month, with Committee Chair Stephen Timms writing to the Secretary of State to press for answers on a number of points not addressed by the response.
The Committee is likely to ask Dr Coffey about the issues raised in the report such as the disparity between the rise in the rate of Universal Credit compared with legacy benefits. The Secretary of State could also face questions on how the DWP is preparing for a possible increase in UC claims when the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme comes to an end next month and the Department’s role in the Government’s Plan for Jobs.
MPs may also ask about other topical issues related to the work of the DWP.
