Estimates of gas consumption at regional (NUTS1) and local authority levels (LAU1 – formerly NUTS 4) use data at meter-point level from the re-structured gas distribution network.
The data is an aggregation of Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) readings throughout Great Britain as part of our annual meter point gas data exercise. Key points about the data:
- they relate to gas consumption in Great Britain
- they cover the gas year (mid May 2019 – mid May 2020)
- they are subject to a weather correction factor
In March 2008, this gas consumption dataset gained National Statistics status. This status applies to all data from 2005 onwards. The 2004 data are still classed as experimental. Gas consumption statistics for 2004 (experimental), and 2005 to 2019 (National Statistics) are available below. Included in the dataset are estimates of:
- sub-national gas sales for all MPRNs in Great Britain
- number of gas meters in Great Britain
- domestic gas sales and meter numbers
- non-domestic gas sales and meter numbers
- average domestic consumption per meter (at a regional level)
- average non-domestic consumption per meter (at a regional level)
