Detail

This guide provides an overview of how a claimant’s Universal Credit payments are affected when they start work or earn more. It explains:

  • how claimants can continue to receive Universal Credit when they start work
  • that, unlike Jobseeker’s Allowance, their claim won’t stop just because they work more than 16 hours a week
  • how they can earn a certain amount - called a work allowance - before their Universal Credit payments are affected
  • how their Universal Credit payments are only reduced at a gradual rate as they earn more, to help ensure they are better off in work

Part of the Universal Credit toolkit for partner organisations.
